Presepio dei Netturbini

Today I visited for the first time the Presepio dei Netturbini. The Presepio represent the lifestyle of the village in old time on the middle east. Also has the representation of the birth of Jesus christ with the visit of the angles.

The traditional crib set up designed and built by Giuseppe Ianni in collaboration with the operators of the AMA company in Rome is now over 40 years old.

Made entirely of masonry with lime and composed of over 2234 stones, of which 350 from all over the world, which intends to reconstruct the typical constructions of old middle east of 2000 years ago, down to the smallest detail. There are no less than 100 houses in tufa stone with doors and windows, 52 meters of "miniaturized" streets in sampietrini, 4 rivers a total of 12 meters in length and 4 aqueducts. And again 870 steps, 24 caves carved into the rock, 2 damp walls forming stalactites and 270 characters.

The work of improvement and enrichment of the Crib by the author has continued in all these years, with the voluntary commitment outside working hours of some dozens of ecological operators and employees of the AMA, and continues today with small but continuous changes. . It is estimated that they have admired the Nativity scene over 2 million people, including in January 1974 Pope Paul VI, from the beginning of his Pontificate until 2002 Pope John Paul II, who never missed the traditional Christmas appointment with Roman garbage collectors , and in 2006 Pope Benedict XVI. Also worthy of mention are the visits of Mother Teresa of Calcutta in 1996, of the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano in 2007, and of all the first citizens who took turns leading the capital.

To visit the Presepio dei netturbini is free and are open everyday from 9:30 till 12:30 and from 13:30 till 18:00 on week days. On Saturday and Sunday is open from 9:00 till 11:30 am.
